As the UK accelerates towards an electric transport future, ensuring that EV infrastructure works seamlessly across vehicles, networks, and energy systems is becoming increasingly critical.

 

Interoperability - how different EVs, charging networks, and energy providers connect and communicate - is a key focus for Government policy. Getting this right is essential to creating a competitive, accessible, and user-friendly charging landscape that supports widespread EV adoption. 

At the same time, EV infrastructure cannot operate in isolation. It must integrate effectively with the wider energy system, including technologies within homes and buildings such as smart meters, heat pumps, and energy management systems. This system-wide approach is vital to ensure flexibility, efficiency, and resilience as demand for electricity grows. 

BEAMA is working closely with industry and policymakers to help shape a consistent and practical approach to interoperability. Our aim is to support the development of EV infrastructure that operates safely and reliably, while contributing to a smarter, lower carbon energy system.
