The Smart Building Group plays a crucial role in supporting manufacturers in the smart home sector by advocating for standards, driving innovation, and fostering collaboration. Through their efforts, the SBG group ensures that manufacturers are well-positioned to meet the demands of an increasingly interconnected and tech-driven world.
We represent our members on the SSES Smart Secure Energy Systems, Power Responsive, NESO Strategic Energy Planning Industry Working Group.
We also represent our members in the PAS1878 workgroups, Open ADR alliance and several other national and international standards.
Given the nature of the Smart Building Group, we also collaborate with other trade associations and affiliate with a number of other organisations to seek and collaborate views for policies and advocacy.

BEAMA’s focus on Consumer Energy Data over the last few years has seen much evolution. The group continues to advocate for policies to promote the integration of smart meters, energy management systems, and demand response solutions, while ensuring data privacy and security.
Consumer energy data plays a vital role in helping the UK meet its Clean Power 2030 objectives and reduce carbon emissions. By providing insights into energy usage, it allows consumers to make more informed decisions, optimize their energy consumption, and reduce waste, which directly supports decarbonization efforts.
Energy data also helps integrate renewable energy more effectively, manage demand, and encourage the adoption of energy-efficient technologies.
This group will also collaborate closely with the ESA and CEM subgroups to establish clear standards for interoperability between devices and systems, enabling seamless communication within smart building ecosystems.
The opportunities for consumer data are extensive, and manufacturers can harness this potential to empower consumers with actionable insights from their energy data.
