London’s 2030 Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy - Summary document

15 October 2021

For the past few years, Jeremy Yapp, Head of Flexible Energy Systems, has represented BEAMA and its membership on the Mayor of London’s EV Infrastructure Taskforce.

Today, the Taskforce launched a draft summary document (available on the website) of its 2030 strategy, on which the Mayor’s office is seeking wider stakeholder comment, ahead of final publication of a full document at the end of the year. If you would like to know more about the BEAMA EVI Group and our work to support the rollout of EV charging infrastructure, please contact Jeremy.

The 2030 EV Infrastructure Strategy includes a key commitment to unlock land owned by the Greater London Authority for EV charging, and supporting boroughs to do the same. London’s charging infrastructure now accounts for approximately a third of the UK’s total charge points and represents a 55 per cent increase in EV charging points delivered in the three years from 2019 to 2021. However, new modelling estimates that by 2030 London could need 40,000 – 60,000 charge points, of which up to 4,000 will be rapid charge points. It is estimated that around a quarter of these rapid charge points could be accommodated by public sector land.
